Well, it took hours of my time, largely because I am learning by trial and error, but I finally got my first video posted on YouTube, in the ICMI QueueTube channel. It’s not going to win an Oscar, but I think I did a decent job with the production of it, and I hope to become more skilled with practice.
It’s an interview by ICMI’s Brad Cleveland with Wolfgang Neuhauser, 2007 Call Center Manager of the Year in Austria. This was part of ICMI’s Global Forum at ACCE, the Annual Call Center Exhibition, our global conference on call center management, in September 2007.
Why is it so hard to find humorous videos about call centers that are tasteful? I suppose it’s a reflection of comedy’s penchant for ridiculing people and groups to get a laugh. I’m not interested in censorship, not at all, but in trying to find funny videos about call centers on You Tube the pickings were pretty slim, after I eliminated those that were either blatantly or subtly offensive.
See my Call Center Humor playlist on ICMI’s QueueTube (click on the “Call Center Videos” tab at the top of this page) for a continually updated collection of funny videos about call centers that you can show to people you work with and not get fired . . . well, judge for yourself before you show them, since everyone’s tastes vary. I think they are acceptable, but don’t come to me if your boss wants to know why you’ve been spending time during the workday on YouTube!
I’ll keep adding to the playlist as I find more that meet my criteria of funny but not offensive — please send me any you find, too. And if you have any comments on these, please share them.
We’ve been hearing about user-generated content on the Internet for years now. For some of us, it’s old hat. I’ve been in charge of ICMI’s user-generated content forever — ICMI’s QueueTips, a question and answer forum for call center professionals — and have been amazed at how much it has grown and how much attention it attracts. There’s no question our QueueTips pages bring many new customers to ICMI who never would have found us otherwise.
That’s old-fashioned text content, though. Nothing flashy about it. As I explored the world of online video (see my earlier post on You Tube for Business), I stumbled upon some brand new, funny and flattering user-generated content: a video created by staff at a call center, singing a song parody written by ICMI’s own Greg Levin. It’s a riot, and I recommend watching it if you have any interest in call centers and/or a good laugh.
Now I am looking for ways to produce more of the “flashy” and fun user-generated content, to round out our already-robust QueueTips offerings. call center management
