About Ted Hopton

I am still trying to come up with a concise way to describe my job. The best I have so far is “social media pioneer,” but I think that still needs work (any suggestions are welcome — please use the comments). My official title is Wiki Community Manager for United Business Media (UBM). My charge is to roll out and develop online communities throughout our large, diverse and geographically dispersed organization.

Just as in my previous role, as ICMI’s Director of Membership Services, and as the Editor of ICMI’s QueueTips question-and-answer forum for call center professionals, along with my role developing the educational programs for all three of ICMI’s call center conferences, I am committed to encouraging the exchange of knowledge among people and groups worldwide.

I have many other interests beyond wikis, social media and call centers, and I am committed to being a life-long learner. As a former high school English and Social Studies teacher with an undergraduate English degree from Brown University, I have a fondness for the humanities, yet quantitative analysis fascinates me, too, as reflected in my Drexel University MBA concentration in Finance. I enjoy writing (hence this blog) and keeping up with all kinds of news, and I’m currently an Assistant Organizer for the Get Out Philadelphia Adventurers Meetup, and was a co-founder of the Moorestown Rowing Club.

Back in my teaching days, in my early twenties, I was a leader on trips with groups of students to Europe and (literally) around the world. I still love to travel!

Thanks, Kare! I’d say it’s more of another “o” word: obsessive :-)

    Wow! I feel so under-educated!
