Going to Costa Rica
Posted by Ted Hopton on February 10, 2008
I fly to Costa Rica next Saturday with eight other adventurers from the Get Out Philadelphia Adventurers Meetup. Last night we gathered to discuss our plans, share ideas, and ask questions of our hosts, Dawn and David, proprietors of the La Danta Salvaje rain forest preserve we’re going to visit.
Dawn and David joined us on a Skype video call, which was amazingly cool when you stop to think about it. We could see them in their home in Costa Rica, and they could see the group of us here in the US. So what if the video was jerky and blurred if anyone moved fast — as I recall, so was the video from the first moon walk. It’s still amazing that anyone can use this kind of technology, and for free. So what if it kept crashing and cutting us off a half-dozen times during the call. Guess we got the quality we were paying for!
Temperature in Costa Rica was 84 degrees Farenheit when we called. Nice! I’m really looking forward to a tropical escape from winter. Much as I have read about and seen television programs and movies about rain forests, I can’t really imagine what it’s going to feel like to set foot in one, myself. I suppose it will feel sloppy and slimy as I sink into the mud, if it has recently rained . . .
Today is serious packing day. Time to assess all that I am taking, weed out what I don’t really need, and go buy essentials I am missing. On that note, I’ll post this.
