Photos After the Tornado

Posted by Ted Hopton on February 7, 2008

A friend, Bob Furniss (recently featured here in Your Contact Center’s Annual Report), whose son was trapped in a building at Union University in Tennessee after a tornado devastated the campus, sent me this link to an amazing set of photos. Thankfully, Bob’s son miraculously survived to be rescued, as did the others in that building. The photos make you wonder how they did.

Union sustained heavy tornado damage Tuesday evening at approximately 7 pm on Feb. 5 when a line of heavy thunderstorms rushed through the area.

It looks handy and fun, but I wonder if the video is decent? Seems most still cameras that add video capability fall short, but perhaps by only aiming at the lower-level quality needed for online video, the results could be better.

Brainstorming Humor

Posted by Ted Hopton on February 7, 2008

We’ve heard it before — humor helps to break the ice, etc. — but Professor John Morreall explains in this Fast Company interview specifically “Why You Should Include a Joker in Every Brainstorming Session.” It’s a short, fun read and it may give you some ideas for improving your next brainstorming meeting.

Humor makes us think more flexibly. People who think funny do better on creativity studies. To put it really simply, humor loosens up your brain to think of more possibilities and be more open to the wild and wacky ones.
