I’ve read that multi-tasking is really an illusion. We *think* we are truly multi-tasking, but we’re actually distracting ourselves, not really focussed, and not really more productive. That’s what the research I’ve read says.
Not that I really remember that most of the time. Today, I thought I was really cranking out all kinds of tasks at once. I was running a program on the computer, listening to a program on the radio, cleaning up the kitchen, and throwing in a load of laundry. Man, I was getting things done!
And then I looked for my cell phone. It was not in the bedroom. Not in my office. Not in the kitchen. Not in the bathroom. It is NOT in the washing machine, I told myself as I checked every place I had been . . . but it was. I was so efficient I had slipped out of my bathrobe and tossed it in the washer while I was getting dressed and doing all those other things . . . and forgot my phone was in the pocket.
