Video Marries Story

Posted by Ted Hopton on January 11, 2008

OK, I’m on a video roll. You know how the brain works, right? Once you have something on your mind, you become hyper-perceptive to that thing and notice it more than you would otherwise. Try it when you are car shopping. I got a Toyota Matrix and at the time hardly remembered the car was on the market. Now that I own one, I see them everywhere, and I don’t really think their sales suddenly spiked around where I live.

Anyway, back to the topic — video. There’s an interesting blog entry about using video on the MarketingProfs website (which I recommend if you have even a passing interest in marketing). The point being made is not earth-shattering — might even be a “duh” for many people — but it’s still worth reiterating. Stories are compelling, while video of talking heads rarely is. Why do you think they throw all that graphical stuff up on every kind of news channel these days? To make it more interesting to watch than seeing the newscaster’s lips move.

The blog headline, ‘Video, Will You Take Story as Your Lawfully Wedded Wife?’ is clever, too, and I give them props for using a photo from one of my all-time favorite movies, The Princess Bride. A sense of humor helps with video and marketing, too.
